Benchmark and Optimize Streaming Video Quality with OPTICOM’s PEVQ-S
New Measurement Standard for Video Streaming Quality enables accurate testing of Video-on-Demand Services like YouTube, Amazon and Netflix by modelling Subjective Subscriber Experience
Erlangen, GERMANY – 24. February 2015

At Mobile World Congress 2015, OPTICOM, the leading experts for Voice and Video Quality testing algorithms, will feature PEVQ-S, a novel analysis technique for video streaming quality testing, benchmarking and optimization. Announced at last year’s show in Barcelona, the new Standards-based perceptual measurement algorithm has independently been verified in 2014 by the Video Quality Experts Group (VQEG.ORG) and approved as new ITU-T Recommendation J.343. It is claimed to be the best-in-class hybrid perceptual/bitstream model for objective HD video quality measurements.

"Roll-out and monetization of streaming VoD services must be driven by Quality-of-Experience optimization, not just bandwidth" says Michael Keyhl, Founder and CEO of OPTICOM. He continues to explain: “While high bandwidth is a pre-requisite for good picture quality, it does not tell anything about the best quality available from the server, or take into account, for instance, the mobile viewing context of the user. PEVQ-S has not only been approved as a new universal test standard, but it offers the unique feature to compare the currently viewed quality (CVQ MOS) to the best available video quality (BVQ MOS) from the server. This excelled feature of paired KPIs defines PEVQ-S as a universal tool for drive testing of mobile networks, optimization of Content Delivery Networks (CDNs), as well as for benchmarking competitive streaming offerings."

Android test probe implementations embedded on Smartphones, that allow for live real-time quality benchmarking of LTE video streaming services, e.g. YouTube and Amazon Instant Video, will be presented at OPTICOM’s stand 6M53. PC-based implementations with powerful graphical measurement charts are also featured and give useful insights on network and player behaviour, in particular for congested network conditions. PEVQ-S is available as an OEM technology and has been adopted by major T&M manufacturers and network test companies.

OPTICOM will showcase PEVQ-S at stand 6M53 in Hall 6 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on 2-5 March, 2015. For more information, please refer to www.pevq.com or contact us at info@opticom.de.
